Alpha has warned of the dangers of using untrusted quick response (QR) codes, as they may pose a threat to the security of devices and personal data. The warning came the day after the Israeli army dropped leaflets bearing response codes over Beirut. Alpha has previously warned that scanning some QR codes spread across the Internet or on posters and advertisements may lead to users being directed to malicious sites or downloading malicious software onto the phone, which puts personal and financial information at risk. She called on users to be careful before scanning any QR code, and to ensure its source and reliability, especially in public places or anonymous messages. It also stressed the necessity of using safe and updated applications, and not entering any personal data or passwords after opening unknown links, as part of the ongoing efforts to enhance digital security and protect users in Lebanon.
